VALPARAISO | Taltree Arboretum & Gardens invites guests to interact with nocturnal nature, indulge in tasty food and drink, and enjoy glow-in-the-dark art exhibits and performances Aug. 15 and 17.
Join staff as they call in the owls during night hikes through the prairie and woodlands. Discover what insects are attracted by light at The Dynamic Moth exhibit on the prairie.
Art entertainment includes glow-in-the-dark hula hoopers, music performances with The MuddSharks and interactive exhibits such as DreamWeaver, Your Wish for the Environment.
“This event is the first of its kind in Northwest Indiana,” said Alexis R. Faust, President and CEO of Taltree Arboretum & Gardens. “GLOW is a celebration of the natural phenomena that comes alive when the sun goes down.”
Taltree is recruiting artisans for the Art after Dark showcase. Space is still available for exhibit and performance entries. They are looking for local talent to be creative in showcasing their work with lighting, neon paint and whatever looks cool in the dark.
Event central will be at The Railway Garden Depot and The SideTrack, Taltree’s newest concert and event lawn venue. The event begins at 8 p.m. Gate opens at 7:45. Local food vendors will serve pierogi, snow cones, popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob and more.
Event admission is $10 (13 to 54 years old), $8 (55 years old and older), $5 (5 to 12 years old), and free (4 years old and under). Members are free. All event proceeds go to Taltree’s education, restoration, and conservation initiatives.
