VALPARAISO | Local car dealership Grieger’s Motor Sales will be placing a pink car at various businesses around town through October 31st. For each person who takes a picture of the car with the hashtag #PinkDart and submits it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, Grieger’s will have $1 donated to the Pink Ribbon Society. Their goal is to raise $2,000 and create a lot of awareness around town.
The Pink Ribbon Society was established in 2003 and has raised over $150,000 to help the men, women, and various other cancer support organizations in our community. These funds help to underwrite a variety of Pink Ribbon projects including the wig reimbursement program, the State of Indiana’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Bundles of Hope and educational programs.
The hope of this campaign is to not just raise money for the cause. While being able to donate is an important aspect of the campaign, they would also like to reach as many people as possible. A visual reminder to get yourself checked for cancer can be even more important than a donation because early detection is the best way to win the battle against cancer. Together, both organizations hope to help as many people as they can this month with the use of a pink car and social media.
