VALPARAISO | Porter County Aging and Community Services is the place for making social connections around cards, bingo and dominoes. With more space available, two groups are gathering to enjoy games and conversation.
The Friendship Senior Activity Center group continues to meet on Mondays and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m.
The group plays Bunco the first Monday of the month, the game “Center, Left, Right” the second Monday, crazy dominoes the third Monday and “dirty” bingo the fourth Monday. Every Friday the group plays bingo.
“Bring your pennies,” said group leader Arlette Sigler.
They welcome new members and are open to suggestions.
The Valparaiso Panera Bread donates its leftover items every Monday for the group to enjoy as well as PCACS clients and guests.
Another group of seniors is meeting to play bridge from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“We play just for fun, we don’t do master points,” said group leader Bunny Clark. “Anybody can come but they should know the basics of bridge and not expect to get lessons.”
The group usually has eight to 12 players on Tuesdays and 16 to 24 on Thursdays.
“We have had some people 90 years old playing bridge,” Clark said.
She keeps the club running along with Charlie Halberstadt who assists with scoring sheets and making coffee.
“I started playing bridge in high school and after taking a hiatus in my 20s and 30s, I got back into it,” Clark said.
“I love any kind of cards but bridge is my favorite. I love the game.”
