Lake/Porter County District Spelling Bee Saturday

UNION TOWNSHIP | The winner of the 2012 Lake/Porter County District Spelling Bee will be determined on Saturday in the auditorium at Wheeler High School.

This year's corporate sponsor is Kankakee Valley REMC.

At 10 a.m., students in grades 3 through 8 from 22 area schools will compete at Wheeler High School, 587 W. County Road 300 North, to determine the champion of the Lake/Porter County area. Three champions will be awarded with place trophies and will advance to the Kankakee Valley REMC Final Spelling Bee along with 7 additional top finishers from the Lake/Porter County District Bee. The Kankakee Valley REMC Final Spelling Bee will be held on March 3 at Wheeler High School.

The top 10 students from the Lake/Porter County Spelling Bee will compete against the 9 top finishers from the LaPorte County Spelling Bee at the Final Spelling Bee. One winner will then advance on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C May 27 to June 1.
