VALPARAISO – Porter County residents are invited to attend a special program event on February 4 presented by the Porter County Community Foundation and Indiana Humanities entitled “Civility Matters: Civility in Politics, Media and Business.” The program will feature a keynote by former Congressman Lee Hamilton followed by a moderated panel discussion on civility in politics, media, business and our everyday lives. The program is 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Valparaiso University Center for the Arts, 1709 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso. Admission is free but preregistration is required. Hamilton served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965-1999 representing Indiana’s 9th congressional district. He also served as the vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission and is currently a member of the U.S. Homeland Security Advisory Council. Panelists include Hamilton, Bill Masterson, publisher of The Times of Northwest Indiana, and Mark Maassel, president and CEO of Northwest Indiana Forum. Maassel also serves as the chair of the Indiana Humanities board of directors.
The event is part of Indiana Humanities’ two-year Spirit of Competition theme, which includes a traveling exhibit that was brought to northwest Indiana by the Porter County Community Foundation and is currently on display at the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts.
