VALPARAISO | Chad Clifford performed for the clients of Opportunity Enterprises as part of a field day event last month. The clients at OE’s main building in Valparaiso participated in this all-day activity so the facility could be prepared for the agency’s Packathon.

For those clients who are less physically mobile, or those who preferred not to participate in field day activities, Clifford’s performance offered an alternative to the day’s activities. When asked to donate his performance, Clifford readily agreed.

“When I was younger, my mother worked with people with disabilities, and spending time with them had a profound effect on me,” Clifford said. “Her work was so noble and made me realize how important it is to help others. When I was asked to perform at OE, I said to myself if I can somehow brighten someone’s day by singing a few songs, why wouldn’t I?”

OE client Jessica was among those who enjoyed Clifford’s music.

“So far, three Beatles songs,” Jessica said. “It’s awesome!”

“They were singing along with almost every song I did,” said Clifford. “I am impressed that they knew the words to even the more obscure songs.”

Chad Clifford has been a staple in the Northwest Indiana music scene since the 1980s both as a solo artist and the lead singer and songwriter for the Crawpuppies, as well as the owner of Valparaiso's Front Porch Music. His solo set consists of classic rock and pop tunes from the ’60s and beyond, as well as his award-winning originals.

In addition to supporting OE, Clifford supports other nonprofits in the area with performances and also donates instruments and lessons from Front Porch Music for fundraisers when he is able.
