PORTER COUNTY | Local nonprofit Friends Assisting Women in Need, Inc. (FAWN), presented a check for $45,000 to Housing Opportunities (HO) from the proceeds of FAWN’s annual Fashion Show, Dinner and Silent Auction. FAWN, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help women and children in need, has contributed more than $172,000 to Housing Opportunities since 2008. These funds have allowed Housing Opportunities to be awarded over $1.6 million in federal grants benefitting the homeless.

Friends Assisting Women in Need was incorporated in 2007 to provide charitable services for women in need. According to Carol Loesche, President of FAWN, “It’s truly amazing that a small group of women can have this large of an impact on other women’s lives. We are truly grateful to the NWIN community for their support of our event.”

Housing Opportunities is the largest provider of services to the homeless and those at-risk of homelessness in Porter & LaPorte counties. Their mission is to empower families and individuals by providing housing solutions via access to housing options that are safe, decent, and affordable, and customizing client support services that foster self-reliance.

Housing Opportunities CEO, Caroline Shook, expressed the importance of community collaboration to help the homeless families in our area. Caroline stated “The collaboration between HO and FAWN was a natural fit as both nonprofits have similar missions." She added that strong leadership is evident within the FAWN organization, which made the event so successful. Caren Furdeck, Events Coordinator, shared that her experience with the FAWN committee has been undeniably profound. She stated “This group of women is nothing short of amazing both professionally and personally. Their passion and dedication to this community by supporting HO’s mission has been incredible to witness. They stepped up to make a huge difference – they are true pillars of strength in Porter County," said Furdeck.
