VALPARAISO | A man prompted a SWAT response from Porter County and Valparaiso officials Monday when he threatened to harm himself in a home, police said.

Emergency response officials went to a home in the 1000 block of Elmhurst Street about 4 p.m. after a man threatened to hurt himself, Valparaiso police Sgt. Mike Grennes said.

Police were still in a standoff situation with the man about 8:20 p.m.

The man told officials he had a gun and barricaded himself inside the home, police said.

The situation had not been resolved as of press time Monday night.
