PORTER COUNTY | What if the entire county joined together on a single day to help fight homelessness? That’s exactly what Portage Mayor James Snyder and Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas are encouraging. They each signed a proclamation naming Nov. 8 as Porter County GIVE Day – a single day when donations to 17 local nonprofit organizations will go further to fight homelessness, thanks to a match pool of more than $50,000 from generous sponsors.
The amount of the match will depend on the number of gifts contributed on Nov. 8, 2012 only. Nonprofit organizations who will receive much-needed funds from the event include Alice’s, The Caring Place, Dayspring Women’s Center, Gabriel’s Horn, Habitat for Humanity of Porter County, Harold “Hal” Kelley Respite House, Housing Opportunities, Moraine House, New Creation Business Advocates, Open Arms Shelter for Women, Opportunity Enterprises, Porter County Community Foundation Housing Assistance Fund, Porter-Starke Services, Rebuilding Together Duneland, Rebuilding Together Hebron, Rebuilding Together Valparaiso and Valparaiso Men’s Overnight Shelter.
