PORTER COUNTY | Chuck Herman loves to carve wood creations and enjoys being in the Duneland Woodcarvers club.
Because of his passion for the craft, he decided to create a 28-page booklet called "Duneland Woodcarvers ... Who We Are ... What We Do and How."
"I wanted to create this for the club," Herman said. "I think woodcarving is a good activity, and we have people from all over who participate."
Herman hopes club members and others take time to read the booklet and look at 13 pages of color photos that show carvings by some of the club's members. The booklet also includes information about the club, which was founded in 1973, club membership and pages of helpful hints for carvers.
It took time for Herman to create the booklet because he had to collect photos of carvings by 12 or 13 people.
"And if I didn't get photos, then I took my own," he said.
Herman is happy with the final product and hopes others will find it helpful.
The group meets regularly from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays in the activities building in Woodland Park.
Members get together to carve and share helpful information and tips on carving. They also create carvings for their annual carving show in April.
