VALPARAISO | Recently, the Memorial Opera House celebrated the announcement of its 2014 season and introduced its new look. The Memorial Opera House, led by Business Director, Michelle Smith and Artistic Director, Scot MacDonald, have been working for the past year on rebranding the organization that has been a part of the Valparaiso community for over a century.
With the renovations the 120-year-old building underwent recently and the change in management, both on the business and the artistic side, it was time to revive the look of the organization to reflect what the future has in store for the Memorial Opera House.
"We wanted a logo that would not only reflect where we are now, but who we were and where we plan on taking the Opera House in the future. We chose a classic design with a physical representation of the Opera House using the historical colors brought into the building by the Grand Army of the Republic. The design and new slogan, Spotlighting History, Community, and the Arts, encompass the essence of the Opera House."
With this new look comes a new season. The Memorial Opera House officially announced its 2014 season on the evening of the Memorial Opera House Foundation Gala. The 2014 season lineup includes 5 Tony Award nominated musicals, four of which, like the Memorial Opera House, have been revived over the years and 2 award winning plays.
The Gala was a memorable event from the food, catered by Pareá, to the preview performance featuring some of the area’s most highly acclaimed talent and the abundant silent auction items donated by various supporters of the Memorial Opera House. The Memorial Opera House Foundation’s dedication to supporting and revitalizing this historic monument was apparent in the enthusiasm shared by everyone who attended. The newly formed foundation will continue to assist the Opera House in its mission to Spotlight History, Community, and the Arts.
In addition, the Memorial Opera House 2014 Season will feature the Lunchtime Cabaret Series. The series will include, An Afternoon with Irving Berlin, The Music of Motown, The Ladies Who Sing the Blues and many more.
