NIPSCO and Taltree Arboretum & Gardens launched the Brighter Future Campaign aimed at raising matching grant funds to further the nonprofit’s efforts.

NIPSCO provided Taltree with a grant of $2,500 for temporary, seasonal parking lot lighting for the Valparaiso-based arboretum’s growing number of evening events. Taltree has an unprecedented more than 50 events on the calendar this year and attendance is growing with each event.

All event, admission, membership, education program and facility rental proceeds go to further Taltree’s mission of environmental education, restoration, conservation and sustainability. The 330-acre site boasts formal gardens, woodlands, wetlands, prairies and oak savannah, including the nation’s third most diverse collection of oak trees.

To assist with the matching funds required for the lighting grant, NIPSCO and Taltree created a crowd-funding site through The fundraising campaign will continue until the $2,500 goal is met.

“We are grateful for the generous support from NIPSCO of our efforts as we continue to grow and share our mission,” said Stephanie Blackstock, executive director of Taltree Arboretum & Gardens.

“Supporting local environmental organizations and initiatives across our service area is an important part of our company mission,” said Rick Calinski, NIPSCO public affairs manager. “And we’re excited to partner and help Taltree in their efforts to protect and educate the public on the environment.”
