VALPARAISO | The extension of Sturdy Road north of Glendale Boulevard is still a "sometime in the future" project, but a connection to the segment of Sturdy north of Glendale should be ready in a week or so.

Gariup Construction started construction of a six-foot-wide pathway Friday as part of the company's work under the annual sidewalk bid. City Engineering Director Tim Burkman said the goal is to get it done before snow begins to fly, but he expects it to be completed by the end of the month.

The project was designed by the city's engineering department as part of the Glendale pathway put in last year, and it was staked out by the department last week. The $17,190 cost is being funded by the city's Redevelopment Commission.

"It will connect all the area to the north to the city's pathway system," Burkman said. "The city owns the right of way, but there's no road there yet."

The pathway will go as far north as Truman Avenue, about 300 feet, which will provide easy access to the pathway system to residents of the Worthington Subdivision, Maple Creek Subdivision and even Country Club Estates.
