VALPARAISO | Valparaiso Oldtime Dance Society will hold a contra dance Sept. 21 at a new location, the old Valparaiso Technical Institute building, 1150 W. Lincolnway.
Enter the parking lot either from Lincolnway or from Center Street. Park on the east side of the building and enter through the public entrance, which features a stairway with flowerpots and a sign.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. New dancers are encouraged to arrive before the dance starts at 7 so that they can take advantage of the beginning dance instructions. From 8 until 9:45 the dancing continues with contras, squares and other dances with added instruction for improving dancers.
Paul Watkins will be guest caller, and Hoosier Recruits will provide live music.
This dance is open to the public, and children are welcome. No costume, partner or experience needed. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended. To help us protect the dance floor, we are asking dancers to carry in nonmarking, clean-soled shoes to the dance. No smoking, no alcohol.
The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Admission is free with college student ID.
