VALPARAISO | A potbellied pig will be among the animals available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lakeshore PAWS open house, 405 Elm St.
At any one time Lakeshore can have around 50 animals including cats, dogs, kittens, puppies and now a potbellied pig named Ben.
"We have three different rooms that visitors can check out," said Tracey Owens, office manager. "People can come here and meet with the animals and play with them."
Ben is also available for adoption and will be at the open house.
"He is adorable and has been following us all around," said Owens.
Owens encourages people to come in ahead of time and fill out an application if they are interesting in adopting an animal. People also can foster an animal.
Lakeshore PAWS is a volunteer-run, nonprofit animal rescue. The group finds loving homes for abandoned and unwanted pets in Northwest Indiana.
