VALPARAISO | Client artists with Opportunity Enterprises’ Art Enrichment Program have been working all year painting canvases and creating ceramics for an annual art show. The art will be sold at OE’s sixth annual ARTablity Art Auction in November.
All of the canvases will be sold by silent auction. The silent auction will use a bid-by-text technology from AuctionsByCelluar, so attendees are encouraged to bring their cellphones. Ceramics will be sold at set prices and are not part of the auction. The proceeds will go to OE’s Art Enrichment Program and the client artists also will receive a commission on each sale.
The client artists spend a few hours a week working on their art with the help of OE’s art instructors. There are typically between 50 and 75 painted canvases available to purchase, along with a number of ceramics.
Nick, one of the artists, has participated in many of the ARTability auctions and already has completed three for this year’s auction.
“I like painting, it’s really fun,” he said. “But I also like to make ceramics, including bowls.”
“It’s nice because I can make a little money,” said Christine, another artist, who was working on her first canvas for the art show. “I’ve made a lot of ceramics, like vases and dishes.”
The artwork will be available online for the public to view before coming to the auction. This will allow people to know prices beforehand and see what art they are interested in.
There will also be bio pages from each artist discussing the artwork they created.
On Fridays, completed artwork is brought to Framing Concepts in Chesterton to be framed and stored until the auction.
”Seeing it go from a plain canvas to a finished project is really amazing,” said Carol Loesche, OE’s enrichment services manger. “The most exciting part of the show is having the clients come. They’re so excited to be there, and their families come and they’re just thrilled. “
ARTability Art Auction will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15 at Framing Concepts. Appetizers and wine will be provided.
Visitors are also encouraged to visit Ashley’s Jewelry by Design next to Framing Concepts. A portion of qualifying purchases there also will be donated to OE.
