Restorative Retreat

Join an instructor at Brincka Cross Gardens for a day long restorative retreat that will focus on both the mind and body through the use of yoga and meditation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The day will include a light, healthy lunch.

Acrylic Painting

Acrylic painting is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at South Haven Public Library. cost is $10. All skill levels are welcome to attend this art class under the guidance of an experienced instructor. A painting surface will be provided.

Spanish Made Fun – The World

Students in grades 2 through 6 will have fun learning about the Spanish language and culture from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 14 to June 3. Class topics are all about the world – animals, weather, nature and basic conversation will be introduced using games, songs, books and interactive activities.

Freezing Foods

An educator from Purdue Extension will provide tips and techniques for freezing foods – from fresh produce to leftovers from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 16 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park.

Valparaiso parks

Valparaiso parks officials offer many activities this month. Call (219) 462-5144, visit www.valpoparks.org or visit the parks office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 3210 N. Campbell St.

Budding artists enrichment

Learn the basics of various artistic mediums at the Village Park Enrichment Center. Class choices in April are Drawing for $55 on April 3, Pen & Ink for $65 on April 10, and Pastels for $75 on April 17. Class price includes all materials for each three hour class. Register for all three classes at once for a price of $180. Register no later than one week prior to class. Class is suitable for individuals 16 years and older.

Wedding dance class

Learn a variety of dance steps that are perfect at weddings and other social occasions. Wedding parties, family and friends can take the class together. Couples or individuals can take it to be ready for any occasion where there is a dance floor. Classes are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays from April 21 to June 16 at Village Park Enrichment Center. The couples price is $75/87; individuals are $40/52. Register by April 9.

Picnic shelter reservations

Spring, summer and fall dates are still available for reserving a park shelter for family events and business gatherings. More than a dozen park properties offer several choices for a casual event site. Rental prices vary according to the location and type of shelter. Game kits and large charcoal grills are also available for a nominal fee.

Bikin' & Eggs Family Bike Ride

This new event is a leisure ride via pathway from Foundation Meadows Park to Rogers-Lakewood Park and back for a fun, family friendly, 3-mile morning bike ride. Included is a light breakfast at the end, along with a bike rodeo, inflatables, face painting and more. All ages and abilities are welcome. Helmets required for all participants. $15 per family (includes up to 3 people), $8 for each additional family member. Age 3 and under ride free. Register by May 30.

Discovery Camps for Summer

Kids will get outside and get active in Discovery Camps at Rogers-Lakewood Park this summer. The 10-week program for grades 1 through 8 has a weekly theme plus a variety of activities that include sports, arts and crafts, fishing, archery, nature hikes, and boating. Sign up a week at a time or for multiple weeks.

Adult Coed Soccer

Rosters are available for the coed league at a team price of $750 plus $12 per non-resident player. Individual players can sign up at a price of $75/87. Rosters or registration are due by April 16. Blank rosters are available online under the Sports tab.

Rookie Baseball League

Register for Rookie Baseball leagues for ages 7 and 8 (age as of May 1, 2014). Teams will play a 10 game season June 7 through July 19, with a single elimination tournament. Price is $60/72. Registration deadline is May 9.

Youth Co-ed T-ball

Ages 4 through 6 (age as of May 1) play T-ball in two age divisions. The divisions are 4 and 5 year olds play traditional ball hitting off the tee. The other division is 6 year olds begin on the tee and transition to coach pitch. The season is June 7 – July 19 with five weeknight games that begin at 6 p.m. and three Saturday games. Price is $50/62. Register by May 9.

Track and Field for Youth

Boys and girls ages 4 through 12 can be a part of the Valpo Parks Track and Field team, participating in four events at each meet. Compete against teams from Valpo YMCA, Highland Parks, and Porter County Parks. Practices are Wednesdays starting June 4; meets are Saturdays, June 28, July 12, 19, 26. Price is $47/59. Register by May 16.

Kids Tennis Lesson Sampler

Ages 6 to 16 get a preview of the summer tennis program in this three session offering from May 27-29 at 4 or 5:15 p.m. Kids receive a free tennis racquet. Price is $40/52. Register by May 16.

Adult Wiffle Ball Tourney

Men, Women or Coed teams play in separate divisions in this double elimination tourney. Tourney draw is June 3; tournament is played the weekend of June 7. Awards given for best team name, sportsmanship and tourney champ. Price is $50 per team, register by May 28.

Woodland Park preschool

There are openings for Tuesday and Thursday afternoon class for ages 3 and 4. There is a one-time $20 nonrefundable registration fee. Class tuition is $70 per month for residents and $80 for nonresidents. It is due by the first of each month. Bring a copy of the student's birth certificate.
