Valparaiso parks

Valparaiso parks officials offer many activities this month. Call (219) 462-5144, visit or visit the parks office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 3210 N. Campbell St.

Season Golf Passes

Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation has begun sales of the 2014 Golf Season Passes. Purchase a season pass before Jan. 18 and receive the 2013 season pass rate. They are available for residents and non-residents and are good for play at both golf courses. Available pass types are Individuals, couples, seniors (60+), senior couples, students (valid college ID) and juniors (18 and younger). Passes can be purchased at Creekside Golf Course, 2355 Clifford Road, (219) 531-7888 or at the Valparaiso Parks Office, 3210 Campbell St., (219) 462-5144.

Dodgeball Tourney

Registration is open for the first Dodgeball Tourney for junior high and high school age groups for the 4 p.m. Tourney on March 2 at VHS Field House. Register by Feb. 14.

Winter skills sessions

The Valparaiso University men’s soccer and women’s softball teams will be partnering with Valpo parks officials to teach winter skills camps, along with a baseball skills camp led by volunteer coaches and parks staff. The camps will focus on individual and team development. Baseball and softball camps will be on Sundays in January (maximum 50 participants each). Soccer skills will be Sundays in February (maximum 35 participants). The price is $15 or $27; there is no charge for youths registered in 2014 Valpo parks sports programs.

Coed volleyball sign-up

First- through sixth-graders can learn and play volleyball this winter in this eight-week program. VU volleyball players will run the practices, making it fun to learn the basics or sharpen skills of the game. All practices and games are at the Valparaiso Boys & Girls Club. The price is $65/$77 ($35 less if a member of the Boys & Girls Club). Registration ends Friday.

Discovery Cottage brochure

Check out or stop in to learn about all the new upcoming classes for kids 18 months up to 12 years old, including Preschool Dance with United Dance Arts, Girls Adventure Nights and Spring Break Camp. All classes are held at Discovery Cottage at 1155 Harrison.

Portage parks

The Portage Parks Department offers a variety of programs. The office is at 2100 Willowcreek Road. Call (219) 762-1675.

Woodland Park preschool

There are openings for Tuesday and Thursday afternoon class, for ages 3 and 4. There is a one-time $20 nonrefundable registration fee. Class tuition is $70 per month for residents and $80 for nonresidents. It is due by the first of each month. Bring a copy of the student's birth certificate.
