Young Artists at Sunset Hill
Youth painting instruction, for all skill levels, where the focus of the project is different each month. this will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $8. Participants will create and take home their project the same day.
Weekday Walk at Sunset
Come to Sunset Hill for a walk on the challenging terrain of the park at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, now through Oct. 29. The walk will traverse grass, hills, and woodland trails. Open to men and women years or older. For more information or to register call 219-734-0203.
Melt and Pour Soap Making
Learn an easy method for making your own soap in the microwave from 2 to 3 p.m. March 15. Participants will be provided with the recipe and also take home one bar of lavender soap. Participants are encouraged to take notes so that they can continue their soap making journey at home. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Join instructor at Brincka Cross Gardens to learn about labyrinths, their uses and how they help to calm your mind from 2 to 4 p.m. March 16. Try walking on a small indoor labyrinth and learn how to make your own at home.
Escape the weekday grind by coming out to enjoy a relaxing evening hike with the park naturalist from 6 to 7 p.m. March 19 at Sunset Hill.

Coed spring soccer league
Sign up for coed spring soccer leagues for ages 3 through 12. The season runs early April through mid-May. Kids will learn progressive soccer skills, sportsmanship and healthy competition. All games are on Saturdays and officiated by parks staff. Practices are set by volunteer coaches. The price is $47/$59; register by today.
Wiffle Ball Tourney
The March Mayhem Wiffle Ball Tourney takes place Sunday and March 16. Teams of four to seven players (high school and college age) compete in this new winter tourney. Awards for best team name (pre-approved), best sportsmanship and tourney champion. The price is $50 per team.
Budding artists enrichment
Learn the basics of various artistic mediums at the Village Park Enrichment Center. Class choices in April are Drawing for $55 on April 3, Pen & Ink for $65 on April 10, and Pastels for $75 on April 17. Class price includes all materials for each three hour class. Register for all three classes at once for a price of $180. Register no later than one week prior to class. Class is suitable for individuals 16 years and older.
Wedding dance class
Learn a variety of dance steps that are perfect at weddings and other social occasions. Wedding parties, family and friends can take the class together. Couples or individuals can take it to be ready for any occasion where there is a dance floor. Classes are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays from April 21 to June 16 at Village Park Enrichment Center. The couples price is $75/87; individuals are $40/52. Register by April 9.
Picnic shelter reservations
Spring, summer and fall dates are still available for reserving a park shelter for family events and business gatherings. More than a dozen park properties offer several choices for a casual event site. Rental prices vary according to the location and type of shelter. Game kits and large charcoal grills are also available for a nominal fee.

Woodland Park preschool
There are openings for Tuesday and Thursday afternoon class for ages 3 and 4. There is a one-time $20 nonrefundable registration fee. Class tuition is $70 per month for residents and $80 for nonresidents. It is due by the first of each month. Bring a copy of the student's birth certificate.
Youth spring soccer
Register for spring soccer from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 28 at Woodland Park. The cost is $50 for residents, $60 for others. Practices begin April 7. First game is April 26.
Chicago Fire soccer school
The Portage Parks Department will be hosting the Chicago Fire Spring Indoor Soccer School on March 15-16 in the Oakwood Hall at Woodland Park. This school is for boys and girls ages 6-16 and is designed to teach the fundamentals and technical aspects of the game of soccer by professional coaches at Chicago Fire Camps and Training. The cost of the two-day school is $50.
