VALPARAISO | Local residents can help fight hunger by participating in Sunday’s Greater Porter County CROP Hunger Walk.

Money raised at Sunday’s event will support the Church World Service’s world-wide hunger relief efforts. A portion of the proceeds will also support five local food pantries, including Christian Food Pantry in Valparaiso, Food Bank of Northwest Indiana in Gary, Hilltop Neighborhood House in Valparaiso, Immanuel Lutheran Church Food Pantry in Valparaiso and Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry in Chesterton.

Participants can collect pledges or simply make a donation. There is no minimum to participate.

Donations will also be accepted online at the Church World Service website at

Registration will begin at 1 p.m. at the Valparaiso University Chapel of the Resurrection, 1600 Chapel Drive. The walk will begin at 1:30 p.m.

There will be two routes: a 3K route and one about half that length for anyone with limited mobility.

For more information about the Greater Porter County CROP Hunger Walk, contact Rev. Thomas Rick at (219) 531-4837.
