VALPARAISO | A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Monday night in Valparaiso, city authorities reported.

The incident happened about 8 p.m. along the railroad tracks just north of Grand Trunk and Silhavy Avenue, Valparaiso police Sgt. Michael Grennes said.

Grennes noted the investigation is just beginning. He said police were alerted to the incident by personnel of the eastbound train.

Grennes said Silhavy is closed Monday night between Evans Avenue and Chicago Street while the investigation continues.
