VALPARAISO | The Family & Youth Services Bureau is inviting businesses, organizations and individuals to be involved in the Pick & Treat For Tots drive for The Tot Shop now through Nov. 15.
The Tot Shop is a unique store that doesn’t take money. Families with newborns and toddlers earn coupons that they can exchange for diapers, educational toys, clothing, cribs, and other necessary children’s items.
Parents earn the coupons by participating in activities like prenatal exams, parenting classes, well-baby check-ups, health screenings, immunizations and car seat safety programs. Coupons are distributed at more than 20 medical and social service locations in Northwest Indiana.
The Tot Shop is located at 257 W. Lincolnway, and the Mobile Tot Shop also serves clients in Portage and in LaPorte, Starke, Newton, Pulaski and Jasper counties.
Those interested are asked to hold an event at a specific time, or ask colleagues and/or customers to bring in needed items during a designated time period. People are asked to schedule the drive between now and and Nov. 15; however, new donated items are not accepted throughout the year.
Items most in need at this time include disposable diapers, educational toys, wooden puzzles and winter clothing for infants to size 3T. Only new items are accepted. When items are collected, they can be dropped off at the Family & Youth Services Bureau office at 253 W. Lincolnway, or they can be picked up.
