VALPARAISO — May is National Bike Month and Pines Village is celebratingDrop off old bike(s) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Pines Village, 3303 Pines Village Circle Continuing recycling efforts, Pines Village has partnered with Working Bikes to collect old bikes that will be refurbished and given new homes.

As a non-profit organization Pines Village has a long history of active involvement to further the quality of life in the city.

Working Bikes, a non-profit organization in Chicago, rescues discarded bicycles and gives them new life by redistributing them as tools of empowerment in local and global communities. They donate over 6,000 bicycles each year to international and local partners.

For those in the market for a new bike, visit The Village Gallery featuring The Bicycle Project by photographer Donna Lind and fill out an entry form to receive a gift certificate to the Chesterton Bicycle Station or a donation in the winner’s name to Working Bikes. On June 1, a youth and adult winner will be chosen. The adult winner will receive $400 and the youth winner will receive $200.
