VALPARAISO | Police are looking for a man who stalked and chased a 12-year-old girl Saturday night in a residential area northeast of the downtown.

Sgt. Michael Grennes issued an online community alert to be on the lookout for a white male in his mid-40s, 5-feet, 10-inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt and baseball cap and driving a white conversion-style van with an empty rack on the roof and stick-figure decals of a person and a dog on the back window.

He said police were called at 6:21 p.m. to the area of Elm and Greenwich streets by a report of the man driving by the girl once, then returning, jumping out of the van, running after her and yelling profanities. Police said he chased her one block before returning to his vehicle and driving away, westbound on Oak Street.

Grennes asked anybody with information about this incident to contact the Valparaiso Police Department at (219) 462-2135.
