VALPARAISO | Porter County police are seeking the public's help finding a convicted sex offender wanted for a probation violation.
A warrant has been issued for Valentin Limon, 34, Portage.
Police said Limon registered as a sex offender on Sept. 19, using the address of the Dollar Inn in Portage. But police were told he checked out of the motel on Sept. 20.
Police said Limon failed to meet with his probation officer on Sept. 26.
Limon was sentenced in November, 2011 to three years behind bars after pleading guilty to molesting a girl younger than 14 over a period of more than a year.
His sentence called for five years of formal probation following his prison term.
Court documents state Limon repeatedly put his hands down the girl's pants and made her reciprocate the action. The abuse occurred between October 2009 and March 2011.
The girl told investigators that, after each occurrence, Limon would threaten to harm her if she ever told anyone about the touching.
She told police that it wasn't until Limon was behind bars on a domestic battery incident that she felt safe to come forward with the allegations.
Indiana Department of Correction records show that Limon was released from prison on Sept. 17, just two days before he registered with the sheriff's office.
He is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 205 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police are asking anyone with information about Limon to contact Sgt. Larry LaFlower at (219) 477-3102.
