VALPARAISO | A 19-year-old Portage woman pleaded guilty Monday to sexually abusing an infant in her care.
Dana Haywood faces 10 years behind bars, followed by eight years on probation, according to Public Defender Peter Boyles.
She pleaded guilty to felony counts of child molesting and neglect of a dependent.
Porter Superior Court Judge Roger Bradford will carry out sentencing July 29.
Police said Haywood came forward March 3 and accused 21-year-old Michigan City resident James Glanders, her former boyfriend, of molesting the 11-month-old girl a month earlier during a diaper change in their vehicle parked at Haven Hollow Park in South Haven.
She claimed Glanders climbed into the rear seat of the vehicle and performed a sex act on the girl.
Glanders admitted to the offense, but accused Haywood of telling him to do so, police said.
Haywood admitted to the claim. She also admitted to having performed the same sex act on the child and touching the girl at the suggestion of Glanders, according to court records.
Glanders provided police with text messages where Haywood asked him about having sex with the child and then proceeded to make very graphic references to the possibilities.
