VALPARAISO | The Porter County Community Foundation awarded Parents as Teachers and the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department each with a Community Fund grant check. The grants provide the nonprofit organizations with much needed funds for programs, projects and equipment.

Parents as Teachers is using their grant money toward expanding its Ready, Set, Kindergarten program with Portage Township Schools. The program is designed to help children develop the skills needed before they enter kindergarten. The grant money will help implement Ready, Set, Kindergarten in all eight elementary schools.

Hebron Volunteer Fire Department is using the grant to update equipment that assists the firefighters in identifying the location of a fire within a structure. The 30-member volunteer department provides fire, rescue and BLS nontransport protection in Porter County to Hebron, Boone Township.

The Porter County Community Fund is one of 260-plus funds established with the Porter County Community Foundation to benefit charitable causes.
