LAPORTE COUNTY | Two Porter County men were arrested after nearly hitting a golf cart and jogger with their car near Wanatah, police said.
Zachary Walters, 26, of Valparaiso, and John Selman, 24, of Kouts, were booked into the LaPorte County Jail on charges of public intoxication and trespassing.
According to LaPorte County police, officers responded Saturday to the 10000 block of West 1100 South for a report of a fight about to start.
Gregory Howard told officers he was driving a golf cart on 1150 West with his grandson when a passing car nearly struck him.
Howard said he turned down County Road 1100 South and saw the car pull into a driveway.
Howard said he confronted the three people inside the car, who began yelling at Howard, police said. Howard was pushed during the verbal confrontation, police said.
By the time police arrived, one of the three people in the car had fled.
A short time later, another man contacted police about the same car nearly striking him while he and his wife were jogging in the area of 1100 West and Condon Road, police said.
Walters and Selman admitted being drunk, but both denied being the driver, police said.
They claimed to be returning home from a golf tournament in Hamlet and said the house they stopped at belonged to a friend, police said.
The homeowner could not be reached, and there was no evidence to verify Walters and Selman had a legal reason to be at the residence, police said.
