Turkey Trot 10K sponsored by Porter Regional Hospital- Thursdays, October 3 – November 28. 5:30 – 6:30pm. Cost: $50. Have you run a 5K or two? Are you ready to move up to the next level? Becky Kreiger, RRCA certified running coach and experienced runner Dan Sturgell will help you get to your 10K (6.2 miles) goal so that you can successfully complete the Turkey Trot 10K on November 28. You must be able to run 3 miles. Program fee includes race registration and t-shirt, weekly training schedule, check-ins, workout tips and motivational emails. The first meeting will be at Sunset Hill Farm County Park and following meetings will be at Valparaiso High School.

Reiki Level 1 – October 12, 1-4pm. Cost: $40. Reiki is a Japanese technique for working with the life energy that flows through our bodies. This Reiki Level 1 class teaches techniques to increase and direct that energy for relaxation and optimal well being.

Reiki 2 – The Next Level – October 19, 1-4pm. Cost $40. Continue your learning and practice in the art of Reiki. This class will add to what you learned in the Reiki Level 1 class.

Restorative Yoga/Meditation Retreat – October 20, 1-4pm. Cost $35. Join Instructor Cynthia Smith at Brincka Cross Gardens or a restorative retreat that will focus on both mind and body.

Gentle Yoga for Seniors- Sponsored by Porter Regional Hospital

Oct. 24th – Nov 21 | Thursdays 10:30 – 11:30 | Hebron Public Library

This Gentle Yoga class, taught by a Yogafit Certified Instructor , will teach you the basics of gentle yoga while sitting in your chair.

October 2nd – Waterfowl. Come to Sunset Hill to see the Sand Hill Cranes, Mallards, Canadian Geese – which all live at Sunset Hill or are visible during their fall migration flight patterns.

Young Artists at Sunset Hill Farm County Park

2nd Saturday of the month, 1-2pm. Cost: $8

Youth painting instruction, led by instructor Shirley Massey, for all skill levels, where the focus of the project is different each month. Participants will create and take home their project the same day.

Meet The Animals - October 2 and 5/November 6 and 9. 9:30-10:30am. Cost: Free. Families are invited to stop by Sunset Hill Farm and meet the animals and their caretakers.

Family Hike – October 2 and 5/November 6 and 9. 10:30-11:30 am. Cost: Free. Families are invited to join the Sunset Hill Farm Naturalist on a short hike around the park.

Friday Family Campouts – October 18-19, 6pm – 10am. Cost: $15/family. Grab your tent, some hot dogs and marshmallows and join other families for this affordable fun night of camping at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Set up is from 5-7pm.

Go FishIN at Dunn’s Bridge

Come to Dunn’s Bridge, which spans the Kankakee River at 500 East in Kouts, and learn to tie knots, prepare a hook, proper casting and safety in and around water. This program is free and will be held from 1-3pm, weather permitting, on Saturday, October 5.

Séance – October 19, 7-9pm. Cost: 20. It’s the time of the year when the Veil Between the Worlds grows thin…the perfect time to attempt to make contact with departed spirits. Join paranormal investigator and amateur historian Jayde Petersen as she, along with the help of her associate; employ traditional techniques to make contact with those who have gone before us. This is a serious inquiry, conducted in a respectful and mature manner. Participants must be over the age of 21 and willing to abide by the rules set forth at the event. Join us to see if anyone is trying to contact you.

Dream Interpretation – October 26, 1-3:30pm. Cost: $20. Joyce Scully, PhD Psychology will provide an intimate and supportive environment in which to decode your dreams. Learn tips for remembering and recording dreams and recognizing common symbols.

Save the Date! “Winter Lights Night” Festival will be on Saturday, Nov 16th from 3- 7 pm with a grand finale firework display at 730 pm to end the evening. Visit Santa, decorate cookies, wagon rides, crafts, game and breathtaking light displays throughout the park! Only $5 per car!
