Poetry Appreciation Group

CHESTERTON | Local writer Linda McHugh Fox will present her book, "A Silent Keep," at Mad About Mysteries at 2 p.m. at Westchester Township History Museum,. 700 W. Porter Ave. McHugh will discuss her writing process and experiences as well as her book. McHugh is a reader, writer, runner, political junkie, and self-proclaimed foodie. Harlem Wizards

UNION TOWNSHIP | The Harlem Wizards will play at the Wheeler High School gym against the Bearcat Ballers at Wheeler High School, 587 W. County Road 300 North. The Bearcat Ballers is a team comprised of teachers, staff, and administration from all Union Township Schools. Annual Chili Dinner Charity Event

VALPARAISO | South Haven Lions Club is hosting it annual all-you-can-eat chili dinner (hot dogs available) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the South Haven American Legion Post 502, 429 W. County Road 750 North. All proceeds go to Gabriel's Horn Homeless Shelter and Portage Rebuilding Together. Call 763-2034.

Campbell St. This workshop covers the basics of Social Security and reveals strategies for maximizing your benefits, including five factors to consider when deciding to apply for benefits, how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits and how to coordinate Social Security with your other sources of retirement income. Lenten quiet day

VALPARAISO | St. Andrew's Episcopal church will host a Lenten quiet day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 505 Bullseye Lake Road. The facilitator will be Andrew Marr from St. Gregory's Monastery in Three Rivers Michigan. Andrew Marr is a published author, peace advocate and speaker as well as the Abbott of St. Gregory's Monastery. His quiet day meditations will revolve around Jesus the Forgiving Victim. In his book, "Tools for Peace," he writes about the causes and cures of human violence and how to live in peace. A light lunch will be served. Call (219) 462-4946.
