Elizabeth Krutz, principal at Central Elementary School in Valparaiso, received the Outstanding Successful School award in October at the 66th annual Association of Teacher Educators - Indiana Conference in Nashville, Ind.
Her school was nominated for its partnership with Valparaiso University’s Study Buddy Tutoring program, providing tutoring and mentoring experiences for pre-service education teacher candidates.
“I have been involved in the program for the past six years. I let (Valparaiso University) know the days and times we would like tutors to work at Central,” Krutz said.
“Once the tutors begin, we train them and have them begin working with our students on various academic computer programs.”
“It is always wonderful to be recognized for the efforts that the staff at Central Elementary take to ensure a quality education for all of our students,” Krutz added.
Krutz studied early childhood education at Indiana University Bloomington, later receiving her master's degree in elementary education from Indiana University Northwest.
Her husband, Michael Krutz is principal at Merrillville High School, and the couple enjoy learning from each other to better their schools.
“We discuss general education policies and how they are impacting our schools. We also discuss ideas about working with teachers and parents to advocate success for the children at our schools,” she said.
Krutz resides in Valparaiso and is a mother of four sons, Michael, Carson, Peyton and Ian.
