VALPARAISO | The Family & Youth Services Bureau is offering a free workshop for parents as part of the Family Life Workshop Series.

The workshop, “Undoing Drugs: What Parents Need To Know,” will be led by Dr. Mann Spitler from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the FYSB downtown Valparaiso office, 253 W. Lincolnway.

Topics included are how to discover the most predictive risk factor for drug use; learning why adolescents seek to alter their consciousness; developing effective parenting prevention techniques; and learning the signs and symptoms of drug use.

Dr. Spitler is a certified prevention professional and speaks to schools and organizations about teen drug use. His  presentation can be useful to parents as he speaks from the perspective of a parent whose daughter died from an self-induced overdose of heroin in 2002.

At the workshop he will focus on parental methods to protect children from drug experimentation and subsequent addiction.

Seating at the workshop is limited. Register early by contacting the Family & Youth Services Bureau at (219) 464-9585 or by emailing RSVP no later than Jan. 28.
