Public Open Houses on Highway and Transit TIP, Plan Amendment, and Conformity Determination

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) will host a series of public open houses in August and September on the regional transportation planning process. The events will feature presentations on the 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan and a pending amendment, the FY 2014-2017 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), which implements the plan by programming federal highway and transit funds, and the Air Quality Conformity Determination, which analyzes the impact of the TIP on the region’s air quality.

An open house for all of the above items will be held as follows:

Wednesday, August 21, 2013 1:00-4:00 pm, Gary Public Library, Kennedy Branch, 3953 Broadway, Gary

Two additional open houses will be held on the Transit TIP alone:

Tuesday, August 27, 2013 1:00pm-4:00pm, East Chicago Public Library, Pastrick Branch, 1008 W. Chicago Avenue

September 11, 2013 1:00 pm-3:00 pm, Valparaiso City Hall, 166 Lincolnway, Valparaiso

The Plan Amendment, new TIP, and Conformity Determination are currently posted on NIRPC’s website ( in downloadable formats. NIRPC will receive public comments on these three documents through Friday, August 23, 2013.

We anticipate posting the Transit TIP on the website on or prior to Friday, August 16, 2013. NIRPC will receive public comments on the Transit TIP through Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
