PORTER COUNTY | April marks the nation’s “Month of the Military Child,” a time to honor youth and their service to the country. In celebration, Mental Health America of Porter County as part of their Building Up Our Youth program supports Indiana Operation: Military Kids (OMK), part of the 4-H Youth Development program of Purdue Extension.
On April 15, as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices people are invited to “Purple Up! For Military Kids.” Everyone across the state of Indiana is encouraged to wear their purple shirts, scarves, shoes, buttons and pants.

Operation: Military Kids is the U.S. Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support children and youth impacted by deployment. Regardless of whether families are experiencing deployment for the first time, the second time or another in a series of multiple deployments, OMK’s goal is to connect military children and youth with local resources in order to achieve a sense of community support and enhance their well-being.
