VALPARAISO | The 2013-14 concert season of the Valparaiso University Department of Music will begin on Thursday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. with a guest artist recital in Duesenberg Recital Hall at the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts. The program is free and open to the public.
Jeff Nelsen, Professor of Horn at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and mezzo-soprano Nina Yoshida Nelsen will join Valparaiso faculty members Ericka Tyner Grodrian and Nicole Lee in a program of music for horns, piano, and voice.
Jeff Nelsen, a former member of the Canadian Brass, has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the philharmonic of New York, and the symphonies of Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Montreal, Cincinnati, Houston, and St. Louis. Hailed as a “rich voiced, expressive mezzo-soprano” by San Francisco Classical Voice, Nina Yoshida Nelsen as sung in many internationally renowned venues, spanning from New York City's Carnegie and Avery Fisher Halls, to London's Royal Albert Hall. Her scheduled performances for the 2013-2014 season include appearances at Houston Grand Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, and the Peoria Symphony Orchestra.
