PORTER COUNTY | Schools in Porter County are invited to participate in an art competition that will help the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County mark America Recycles Day, Nov. 15, and call attention to the availability of recycled latex paint.
Sponsored by the District, the Recycled Latex Paint School Art Contest is for students in grades 6-12. Teachers can register their classes/students online at www.ItMeansTheWorld.org by Sept. 20. Only one panel is available per school on a first-come, first-served.
“Residents and businesses from Porter County can purchase the recycled paint for $3 per gallon, from the City of Hobart’s Paint Recycling Facility,” said Therese Davis, executive director for the District. “Not-for-profit organizations, like schools, can obtain the recycled product for free! It’s a great product, a great resource and helps us close the recycling loop.”
Participants will receive a supply of recycled latex paint in a limited number of colors and a plywood panel, sized 2 ft. x 7 ft., to portray a vertically designed recycling or environmental theme to commemorate America Recycles Day.
The entries will be on display in the Porter County Government Administration Center, 155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso, in November and December.
Photos of all panels will be placed on the District’s website, www.ItMeansTheWorld.org, for the general public to cast their votes online between Nov. 15 and Nov. 22.
The winning class/school will win a bench made out of 1,550 recycled milk jugs for use indoors or outdoors. Schools/classes that place second and third will also be recognized.
More details and rules are available on the District’s website, www.ItMeansTheWorld.org or by calling (219) 465-3819.
