VALPARAISO | A second person has been charged with the April 7, 2012 double homicide at a house just outside of Valparaiso.
Alejandro Sanchez, 21, of Hammond, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged Monday with two counts of murder, according to the Porter County Sheriff's Department.
He is charged with the shooting deaths of Jeffery Trinka, 40, of Valparaiso, and Jennifer Guinn, 31, of Hammond.
Also charged with two counts of murder in the killings is Julius Garza, 20, of Hammond, who is set to go to trial Nov. 4.
Five inmates have come forward claiming Garza confessed his role in an April 7, 2012 double slaying just outside of Valparaiso.
Defense attorney Larry Rogers told a judge in August that Garza denies having anything to do with the killings or talking to the inmates in question.
Garza has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, is accused of killing Trinka and Jennifer Guinn at a home in the 1500 block of Lincolnway in Center Township.
Porter County 911 dispatchers received a call about 2:11 a.m. April 7, 2012 from Guinn, who told them her friend had been shot, according to court documents. Dispatchers then reportedly heard gunshots and the woman went silent.
Dispatchers traced the woman's cellphone to the home, where authorities confronted Garza.
