VALPARAISO | Some Members of the Valparaiso University men's soccer team will be going bald in a month.

They are teaming up with St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding research to find cures for childhood cancers.

Jeff Oleck, assistant men's soccer coach, said he was approached by one of his players to participate in this fundraiser.

"Tom Serratore, a freshman goalkeeper, has a strong tie to this organization and he came up with this idea for us to help," said Oleck.

Currently there are 30 members on the soccer team and a coaching staff of 5 and many have signed up to get their heads shaved from noon to 6 p.m. March 12 at B & G Barbershop at 53 S. Michigan Ave.

"We will be doing this to raise money and awareness," said Oleck. "People can donate money online or by check or they can come out that day and support us or even join the team and get their head shaved."

The St. Baldrick's Foundation currently funds childhood cancer research grants. The Foundation coordinates its signature head-shaving events worldwide, where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research.

People can visit www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/teamid/69360 and can make a donation or even sign up to be on the team to raise money.

The goal of the team is $4,000 but Oleck has his own goal of $1,000 and if he reaches that goal he will shave off his beard which he has had for six years.
