INDIANAPOLIS | State Rep. Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, defeated Judge Thomas Webber on Tuesday to win another two-year term in the Indiana House.
"At my age, first of all, it's an honor to be able to just keep working," Soliday said. "To get re-elected another time, I look in the mirror and say it's pretty amazing that they would give me a third term."
Soliday, 65, credited his victory with being willing to work across party lines and with anyone interested in improving Northwest Indiana. He represents House District 4, which comprises southern Porter County and portions of eastern Lake and northern Jasper counties.
Under the new Republican majority in the Indiana House, Soliday is likely to be promoted from his position of assistant whip, or vote counter.
As a retired airline pilot, Soliday is a logical choice for chairman of the House Transportation Committee. He shepherded legislation establishing the Illiana Expressway through that committee earlier this year.
