VALPARAISO | Runners of all ability levels interested in running the sold-out Bank of America Chicago Marathon can still register with the Opportunity Enterprises Marathon Team through July 15.

There are a limited number of spots available, and they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, said Allison Thomas, OE’s marketing and communications manager.

Not sure if you’re up for running a full 26.2 miles with only three months to prepare?

Thomas said people who can run four to five miles on a regular basis can be ready for the marathon, which takes place Oct. 13.

Thomas said OE offers three training programs, for beginners, intermediate and advanced runners, which will gradually improve the endurance of runners throughout the summer and into the fall.

Thomas said training takes place in groups, which fosters lasting relationships and emotional support. The OE training also has water stops along training routes throughout the area.

In addition to the training program, team members will enjoy other benefits, including use of an exclusive race day warm-up and reunite area, a team shirt, race day transportation to and from Northwest Indiana, a weekly e-newsletter containing training tips and team updates throughout the training season, a pasta dinner and post-race party during race weekend, and discounts on Northwest Indiana hotels for out-of-town runners and their families.

“It’s such an experience,” Thomas said. “It’s hard to imagine 40,000 people, plus all of their friends and family out cheering along the way. Such a motivational experience.”

Registration requires an activation fee of $200, and a commitment to raise an additional $550 by Sept. 13.

Runners who want to join the team should contact Team Coordinator Alyse Kominakis at (219) 464-9621, ext. 233 or alyse.kominakis@oppent.org.

More information about the OE Marathon Team can be found at www.oerunners.org.

Funds raised by this year’s team will support growth and development at OE’s Lakeside property and the programs which are located there - Enriching Possibilities and the Renewed Horizons Adult Day Center.

Team sponsorships are also available at a variety of levels. For sponsorship information, please contact Corporate Relations Liaison Dave Collins at (219) 464-9621, ext. 208 or david.collins@oppent.org.
