Students add up costs, learn life is expensive

Mre than 1,000 Porter County eighth-grade students participate in the Envision the Future program Tuesday at the Porter County Expo Center. Sponsored by the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, the event is designed to teach young people how to budget their finances, focusing on monthly expenses associated with rent or mortgage, utilities, taxes, children, insurance and other living costs such as food and clothing. Unexpected events are also thrown into the mix with unemployment, medical issues and divorce.
