VALPARAISO | Taltree’s Children’s Adventure Garden will open rain or shine on April 1. Plants have been started, housing for worms is under construction, and new features like musical instruments, a rain chain and a windmill are being gathered for installation.
The Children’s Adventure Garden is all about interaction, and not just between children and nature. Kids will be drawn into a world where houses are made from sunflowers, willow branches form passageways, and uniquely-shaped gourds hang from a tunnel leading to a shed with a roof made of plants. A series of vegetable growing beds, compost bins, a worm farm and chicken house will teach concepts such as “seed to table,” the three R’s of recycling (how to reuse, recycle, and reduce), and how all living systems are interdependent. Just a couple of new additions this season include an A to Z Plant Walk, showcasing plants whose names correspond with each letter of the Alphabet, and a Music Garden, featuring melodies made from instruments crafted from nature and propelled by the wind.
