VALPARAISO — Celebrate Arbor Day at Taltree Arboretum & Gardens on Saturday. Admission all day is free for kids 12 and younger.

The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with Plant Hero 5K fun run at Taltree, 450 W. County Road 100 North. This family-friendly trail run is open to runners and walkers of all skill levels. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite heroes.

Stay after the race for the Arbor Day Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the true spirit of Arbor Day, Taltree arborist Craig Gress will plant several trees around the 330-acre property throughout the day.

The festival features a Silly Safari Animals visit from Coyote Chris, lawn games, a rock climbing wall presented by the Indiana National Guard, train rides on the Sprout Express and musicians playing in the children’s Adventure Garden.

The Railway Garden will have trains running among scenes telling the story of the nation’s steam engine past. Taltree’s Fairy House exhibit will be on display and self-guided tours will be available. A variety of food trucks will be on hand.
