VALPARAISO | An 18-year-old Valparaiso man was arrested Thursday night at Zao Island where a go-cart was removed from a building.
Darius Ginn was charged with criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and minor consumption of alcohol.
Police were called at 11:38 p.m. Thursday to Zao Island, 1050 Horseprairie Ave., where an alarm had been activated.
When officers arrived, one male was discovered standing outside near the go-cart building. Police said he and two others ran when they saw police.
Police said officers learned the three had entered the go-cart building and removed a go-cart from the building along with another item.
The three were last seen running into the marsh area southwest of the business. Police began searching the area and dogs from the Porter County Sheriff’s Department and the Valparaiso Police Department began tracking the three subjects.
An officer saw Ginn exit the marsh area near Danvers Parkway and Rowley Street.
Police said Ginn confirmed being at Zao Island and attempting to remove the go-cart from the building.
Police learned the identities of the other two people who ran and charges are pending.
