MICHIGAN CITY | The British custom of afternoon tea comes to Barker Hall from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The traditional tea-time menu will be bite-size sandwiches, a variety of holiday scones topped with Devonshire clotted cream and jam and a selection of traditional cakes, pastries and chocolates. English-style tea with cream and the Russian-style tea with lemon and sugar will be served on the Barker Hall monogrammed china. Hot punch will also be served.
Guests will receive complimentary copies of tea menu recipes. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12 and free for children under 6.
The romantic Gothic-style great hall on the upper level of Barker Hall is a 3,600-square-foot oak-paneled room, lit by 15-foot-tall leaded glass windows and four-foot-wide chandeliers.
Barker Hall is located on Sixth Street between Pine and Franklin Streets.
The holiday tea will also feature a cookie walk where tables full of homemade cookies will be sold for $8 per pound.
"Our cookie walk will make it easier for busy families to continue having special Christmas cookies that often take hours of work to bake," said Trinity Church walk organizer Jeanne Hoyle. The women of Trinity will provide the variety of homemade holiday cookies.
