Master Trooper Dave Miller, aka Stumpy Miller, is retiring after 34 years on the Indiana State Police.

Miller is a Rolling Prairie in LaPorte County native. He graduated high School at New Prairie in 1975. Miller was hired in as a Weigh Master in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Indiana State Police in 1979 where he served until he was selected for the 39th Indiana State Police recruit class when he graduated in July, 1980 to become one of Indiana’s finest.

Upon graduation Miller was assigned to the Lowell Post where he worked Porter and LaPorte Counties for his most of his career. He was assigned as a trooper detective in the gaming division from 1999-2000 when he transferred back to Lowell to begin working Porter/LaPorte Counties again.

During “Stumpy’s” career he was a Field Training Officer, on the Tactical Intervention Platoon, a First Responder and CPR instructor, a technical crash investigator and most of all an all around great guy!!

Miller resides In Porter County with his wife.
