CHESTERTON | The Concert Association of Valparaiso will hold its 2013 Music Scholarship Competition. The area of competition this year will be strings. Eligible students must attend a Porter County high school, grades 9 through 12. Graduating seniors are also included.
The competition will be held at 10 a.m. April 13 at Westchester Intermediate School, 1050 S. 5th St. Applicants will perform two pieces in contrasting style (no more than 10 minutes total) of at least ISSMA Group 1 caliber before a judge in the field of strings.
There will be two monetary prizes: $500 and $300. The awards are to be applied to further studies in strings, which include violin, viola, cello, bass, harp and classical guitar.
