VALPARAISO | A new location is being sought for the Valparaiso Adult Education Learning Center, currently housed at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
The VAELC is one of 14 centers in Northwest Indiana operated by the Center of Workforce Innovations, a nonprofit organization contracted to run one of several adult education centers.
VAELC has been hosted for many years by St. Andrews Episcopal Church in its Sunday school space. However, St. Andrews has other plans for that space and has requested VAELC vacate by July 29. VAELC is seeking a new host to donate the use of office type space and some utilities to allow classes to continue.
The scheduled hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Student range in age from 16 to 65, and occasionally older.
CWI officials state most students are either seeking help to learn English or prepare for the GED examination.
Major needs requested from a new host are:
- 600 to 800 square feet of working space including common utilities, telephone service, and high speed Internet access
- chairs and tables suitable for study hall style usage for a maximum of 25 students
- access to one or more lavatories.
Anyone interested in providing the space can contact Daniela Mancusi-Shreve at email@example.com or (219) 462-4230.
