VALPARAISO | Valparaiso Oldtime Dance Society will hold a contra dance on Saturday at the YMCA at 1201 Cumberland Crossing Dr.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. New dancers are encouraged to arrive promptly when the dance starts at 7 so they can take advantage of the beginning dance instructions. From 8 to 9:45 p.m. the dancing continues with contras, squares and other dances with added instruction for improving dancers.
Mike Clark, of Kalamazoo, will be the guest caller, and the band Blind Squirrel from the Plank Road Folk Music Society based in Downers Grove will provide live music.
This dance is open to the public, and children are welcome. No costume, partner or experience is necessary. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.
The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Admission is free with college student ID.
