HEBRON | Valparaiso Pistol and Rifle Club will host a NRA FIRST Step Pistol Course at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at the club, 554 W. County Road 450 South.
FIRST stands for Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training. This course provides the beginning shooter with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to use a pistol safely. This course is taught in a no pressure environment by NRA certified instructors. Students will spend approximately 3-4 hours at a pistol range that follows National Rifle Association range safety guidelines under the direction five NRA certified Pistol Instructors covering ammunition, loading, unloading, safe handling and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
The class will be providing the use of pistols/revolvers and 22 caliber ammunition for range instructions. Students can bring their own 22 caliber handgun in a case or range bag.
Each student will receive a Pistol FIRST STEPS Participant Packet. This packet contains: NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules Brochure, Basic Practical Rocker and Flyer, Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program Booklet, Concealed Carry Holster Guide, and Pistol First Steps Course Certificate.
Fee is $50 total. The $25 deposit is due by Oct. 16 and the rest due by Oct. 19.
